How to add an additional FTP Account

There are times where you may need to setup an additional FTP account within cPanel. This is particularly true if you need your web designer to be able to access your site files without having full access to your hosting control panel. This article will show you how to create an additional FTP account that allows access to your public_html directory. This directory is where your web site files are kept.

1. Log into cPanel (http://www.yourdomain/cpanel/).

2. Click on the FTP Accounts icon within the Files section of cPanel.

3. In the Add FTP Account area, add a username in the Login text box.

4. Add a secure password.

5. In the Directory text box, add public_html

6. Leave the Quota at Unlimited.

7. Finally click on the Create FTP Account button to finish the process.

So for example if the username you chose is ftpuser, and the password is 123ftpuser then your FTP connection settings will be the following:

FTP Hostname: yourdomain
FTP Username: ftpuser@yourdomain
FTP Password: 123ftpuser
