How to Enable SSL via WordPress

Our WordPress hosting service comes with a free SSL certificate. This certificate is automatically installed and renewed every few months. This provides our clients' websites to meet the demands of Google for a secure internet. Google penalizes rankings of non-SSL enabled website. The important thing to consider here is just because you have a SSL certificate installed doesn't mean your WordPress site is using it. You have to configure WordPress to use a SSL connection for your webpages. In this article we show you how to do that:

  1. Log into your WordPress site at http://www.yoursite.com/wp-login.php

  2. Once you are logged in, click on the Settings --> General link in the left-hand menu.

  3. In the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) text box change http to https, e.g. https://www.yoursite.com

  4. Click the Save Changes button and that is it. Your WordPress site is now utilizing SSL for its connections.
